German machinery manufacturer, Schott & Meissner, a provider of “heat treatment” for the nonwovens and composites industries since 1986, has launched its fifth generation double belt press, known as Thermofix. Earlier Thermofix designs focused on applications requiring lighter pressure. In combination with heated or cooled rolls, these machines were used primarily to produce honeycomb panels, sandwich panels and a variety of composite materials.
 
The goal of generation five is to address new growth markets requiring pressures of three bar, in combination with heat treatment, according to managing director Heinz Schott. The generation five Thermofix will produce materials with a high degree of uniformity in the both MD and CD, such as “hard boards,” “organosheet” and so on.
 
Generation five Thermofix will also provide the ability to produce all materials processed on earlier generations.
 
Over the past 25 years Schott & Meissner has introduced many important innovations in the “heat treating” field, and the generation five Thermofix is no different.  This machine will be offered in a modular design called “Compflex,” which stands for “compression and flexibility.”  This section consists of heated and cooled rolls with a configuration that ensures a high degree of flexibility, allowing for the production of a wide variety of composite materials not found in other designs.
